Schroeder Congratulates Yushchenko, Looks Forward to Greeting Him in Berlin

Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder congratulated Viktor Yushchenko with his “impressive victory” in the presidential elections, and anticipates meeting the newly elected Ukrainian president in Berlin.

“This is simultaneously the victory of the courageous citizens of your country, who fought for free and fair elections,” Schroeder wrote in a congratulation telegram.

“I am convinced that under your rule, Ukraine will become a truly democratic state with a market economy,” Schroeder continued, stating further that Germany will support Ukraine in this endeavour.

The German chancellor also wrote that he hopes to soon be able to greet Yushchenko in Berlin.
